Ten members of the Bilton Hall Amateur Boxing Club on Taunton Avenue are to run 48 miles in 48 hours over a weekend. The aim is to run four miles every four hours, raising £1,200 in the process through the club’s GoFundMe page.
The young boxers are aged from 15 to 22. They hope to raise sufficient money to buy five new punchbags for the club. The old ones have been well worn after several decades of pummelling.

The four-mile course is in Jarrow and will be run 12 times, starting at 5pm on Friday, March 6. It will finish at the same time on Sunday.
Also taking part is one of the club’s coaches, Callum Larson, who is organising the demanding event.
He said: “It’s going to be gruelling. The worst thing for us will be the lack of sleep. It will be a real test of natural character and spirit; and very tiring on the legs.

"Local people have supported us and we’re doing okay so far. We’ve set a target of £1,200 and we’re up to about £850 so far.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone in the community who has contributed.
“I’d particularly like to thank two shops on Edinburgh Road. Nico and Taz at the Premier shop have given us some money and more than 300 bottles of water. The other shop we should thank is Community Corner.”
