Care home announces plans to deliver hampers to elderly people on their own this Christmas - this is how you can help
Staff at Palmersdene, on Grange Road West in Jarrow, hope to bring some Christmas cheer to elderly people across the borough by delivering hampers packed with festive food to their homes.
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic the care home is unable to invite members of the community into the home to spend Christmas Day with the residents, as it has for a number of years.

Now the home is asking people to nominate those they think would benefit from a hamper delivered to their door during the week of Christmas.
People are asked to send the name, address and contact details of individuals who would like to receive a free hamper to the care home before the end of November.
Staff will then make up the hampers and drop them off at the homes of those nominated.

"We are asking district nurses if they can think of anybody suitable and if they would be happy to have their names passed onto us.
“We are also asking if any members of the public know somebody that they think would benefit from it, who may have no family, to put their name forward to the home."
The home is in the process of contacting local shops asking for donations for the hampers which will include a range of festive treats such as Christmas pudding, chocolate and biscuits.
