A Newcastle United fan has spoken of the moment he met Alan Shearer after winning a piece of the club’s history in a charity raffle.

Gary Moseley, from Biddick Hall, South Shields, was the lucky winner of a charity prize draw to win the shirt, boots and armband worn by the former Newcastle captain when he scored his 250th Premier League goal.

Gary, 27, had entered the competition after seeing Alan Shearer Tweet about the draw following Newcastle United's win at home against Southampton.

The Toon fan bought just one £10 ticket and couldn’t believe his luck when his name was picked out from thousands of other supporters in the draw on Tuesday, February 23.

The competition raised £129,990 for the Alan Shearer Foundation and on Saturday, March 27, Gary collected his prize from Alan Shearer himself at his foundation in Newcastle.

Gary said: "It was amazing and a bit surreal.

"We ended up talking about Newcastle and he asked whether I go to the games, if my son liked football and if he went to the games.

"We talked about how the team is doing at the minute and then he started telling me a bit about the foundation and the work that gets done at his centre.”

Gary, who works for South Tyneside Homes, said he and partner Kathryn McGlasham are still deciding where to put the shirt and boots in their house but they are currently sitting pride of place on their fireplace.

He continued: "After Alan left, we were given a tour of the grounds of his centre by one of the workers where they told us a lot more about the centre and the people who use it.

"It was great to see where the money raised will be going and the people it will be helping.”

Alan Shearer thanked those who had donated to the charity by buying a raffle ticket after meeting Gary and his family.

"Thanks again Gary and to everyone who donated.”
