'What ever happened to ‘be kind?' - reaction after staff abused at Trimmers Arms in South Shields

The Commercial Road pub took to Facebook to call out the threatening behaviour of some customers who they said became abusive with staff on Saturday, April 24, following a temporary problem with ordering app W8R.
The well-known live music venue stressed that while most people were understanding, some turned on staff during the evening and critical messages on social media have followed.

Hide AdThe venue urged customers to ‘show some respect’ following the incident and highlighted how the pandemic is already challenging enough without such behaviour from customers.
Since then people across South Tyneside have flooded the Shields Gazette Facebook page with messages of support for the staff at the Trimmers Arms, with many calling for abusive drinkers to be barred.
Angela Dorothy said: “Absolutely disgusting. The pub is doing amazing and staff do not need to tolerate abuse.”
Linda Richardson agreed and called on people to ‘be kind’ – a key message at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. She said: “What ever happened to ‘be kind’ and pulling together?

Jean McDonald added: “The behaviour of some people during this lockdown is appalling.
"They think they can just speak to people as they want.
"I hope they are ashamed of themselves.”
Karen Robson said the hospitality industry has already suffered huge challenges as a result of closure during lockdowns.
She commented: “Like the industry hasn't suffered enough. [You are] doing your absolute best from what I can see to accommodate everyone.

Heather Ditchburn Curry said: “Why take it out on the staff? It’s not their fault an app doesn’t work.”
