New eatery planned for plot near South Shields Wetherspoon's pub The Wouldhave
Back in 2017, outline plans were lodged with South Tyneside Council to redevelop land adjacent to the Wetherspoons pub The Wouldhave, off Mile End Road.
This included erecting a new single-storey building “for the sale of hot and cold food, for consumption on and off the premises.”

Submitted in May 2021, the reserved matters bid included detailed designs, scale drawings and the layout of the new building proposed for the site.
Following consultation on the plans, South Tyneside Council’s planning department approved the application on June 25, 2021.
Although the future operator is not named in planning documents, floor plans show how the building would be subdivided.

A planning application adds that some summer outdoor seating would be provided and “enclosed by a glass balustrade from the public footway.”
Under planning conditions, developments normally have to be brought forward within a three-year period.
The Mile End Road area is seeing much development, with the new Metro training centre, work progressing on the new job centre, and plans approved for a shipping container village.
