System-wide Metro delays after pregnant woman falls ill on train
On Thursday, January 9, Tyne and Wear Metro reported “system-wide” delays as a result of the call-out.
An ambulance attended Heworth station at around 8.35am after a female passenger became unwell onboard a service.

Hide AdThe pregnant woman required treatment after collapsing on the train and could not be moved until paramedics arrived.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and transported a female patient to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
Nexus has apologised for the delays to services, and added: “The incident lasted for an hour and the result was major delays to services across the Metro network.
“The affected train was back on the move by 9.30am. We’re sorry for the disruption this caused.
“This was beyond our control as we had to await the ambulance.”
