An A184 slip road remains cordoned off due to a ‘police incident’ near the Whitemare Pool roundabout.

Photographs show a single police van across the lane after officers cordoned off the exit ramp on the A184 Newcastle Road eastbound at the roundabout with the A194(M).

AA Traffic News is reporting this is due to a ‘police incident’ and the road, near the Whitemare Pool roundabout, was first closed shortly before 10am on Friday, April 2, and remains closed at 6pm.

The nature of the incident and the reason for the closure is not yet know.

The Gazette has contacted Northumbria Police for further details.

The AA website says: “Exit ramp closed due to police incident on A184 Newcastle Road Eastbound at A194(M) (Whitemare Pool roundabout). The slip road is shut heading down to the roundabout, affecting traffic intending to leave the A184 to head towards either the South Shields or Washington.”
