Tyneside pupils get set for Jolly Jumper Day in aid of St Clare's Hospice
The hospice, which is based in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow, has invited schools across the borough to take part in its Jolly Jumper Day which the hospice will host on Friday.
The quirky fundraiser will see youngsters wear their festive jumpers in exchange for a £1 donation to St Clare’s Hospice, which provides care and support for people with life limiting illnesses.

Hide AdThere are currently 11 schools signed up to the initiative - Ashley Primary School, Harton Primary School, Bede Community Primary School, Hadrian Primary School, Laygate Community School, St Mary’s RC Primary School, St Matthew’s RC Primary School, St Aloysius RC VA Infant School, St Bede’s RC School, Whitburn Village Primary School and local nursery Harton Village Kindergarten.
Mags Torley, deputy head teacher at St Matthew’s RC Primary, said the event is a highlight in the school’s annual event calendar.
She said: “All of the children look forward to Jolly Jumper Day every year and we are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile local cause. “The school council helps to organise the day and they have lots of ideas for extra fundraising too.”
Tyler Anderson, community fundraiser at St Clare’s Hospice, said a- lthough the hospice will hold the day on Friday - schools taking part can hold the event on the day of their choosing.

Hide AdShe said: “Jolly Jumper Day is a great way for everyone to support the hospice.
“The children love wearing their Christmas jumpers and meeting our mascot Buddy the bear who attends the schools to say thank you.
“Even the teachers and staff even have a great day.”
St Clare’s is a registered charity that provides hospice care for adults.
It has purpose-built facilities to offer a range of flexible services to families South of the Tyne, including Gateshead.

The hospice does not charge for any of its services, ensuring hospice care is available to everyone.
It has annual running costs stand at just under £2 million so every donation helps.
