When Allan Saint-Maximin gets into his stride, he is extremely hard to stop.

And that was almost the case in the 88th-minute at Anfield on Saturday before Liverpool star Fabinho took matters into his own hands.

Saint-Maximin attempted to carry forward a Newcastle United counter-attack only to be flattened to the floor by the Brazilian.

He received a yellow card for his troubles in a typical ‘taking one for the team’ challenge.

Addressing the incident on social media, Saint-Maximin did see the funny side, joking he thought was going “to win that foot race with Fabinho”

The 24-year-old then added that Fabinho was still his “best mate”, even though he wished he had been shown a red card.

There is certainly no love lost between the pair, who were teammates during their time at Ligue 1 side Monaco.

In the end, Saint-Maximin left Merseyside the happier of the two after the Magpies clinched a point via Joe Willock’s injury-time equaliser.
