The Switzerland international suffered ligament damage in the 3-2 win over Southampton in early-February, which required surgery.
The incident occurred in the 75th-minute at St James’s Park. Schar was stretchered off the pitch and United subsequently played the final quarter of an hour with nine-men.

Schar, however, is eager to play a part in the Magpies’ Premier League relegation run-in, though admits it might not be possible.
Speaking to the club’s Zoom Army feature, the 29-year-old said: “I’m quite happy with where I am after seven weeks since my surgery.
"The last five or six weeks I was working hard in Switzerland. The only aim I had was to do as many hours for the rehab as possible.

"It’s my aim to help the team at the end of the season and I will do everything to try and do that but I can’t exactly say if it is possible or not.”
Meanwhile, Steve Bruce hopes Callum Wilson will be fit for Sunday’s crunch encounter at Burnley.
Wilson, United’s top scorer, also hobbled off in the same game as Schar’s injury with a hamstring problem.
