Fresh Newcastle United injury blow confirmed v Man Utd as Kieran Trippier & Alexander Isak calls made

Manchester United v Newcastle United team news: Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak start at Old Trafford.

Eddie Howe has made one change to his Newcastle United side to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off).

Kieran Trippier is back in the starting 11 after two months away due to a calf injury. He replaces Tino Livramento with the young defender dropping out of the squad entirely after suffering with his ankle once again.

Fabian Schar also returns to the bench after two games out while there is no place for Callum Wilson after the striker missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion due to illness. Alexander Isak keeps his place leading the line for The Magpies despite suffering with illness himself in the build-up to the match and missing training on Monday.

Newcastle head into the penultimate game of the 2023-24 Premier League season sitting three points above Manchester United in the table with a far superior goal difference. Any result at Old Trafford would effectively secure a top seven finish and a first finish above the Red Devils in the Premier League era.

But a defeat would see Man United draw level on points heading into the final match of the season. The Magpies currently sit sixth in the table which would be enough to secure Europa League qualification should Manchester City beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

NUFC XI: Dubravka; Trippier, Krafth, Burn, Hall; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Anderson; Murphy, Gordon, Isak

Subs: Pope, Dummett, Schar, Joelinton, Ritchie, Barnes, Almiron, White, A. Murphy
