'God forbid' - Simon Jordan reveals major Newcastle concern after double injury blow

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has argued that the double injury blow to Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron could have major adverse effects on Newcastle United's survival hopes this season.

The key creative duo were both taken off during the 1-1 draw against Wolves on Saturday evening, and the Magpies confirmed on Tuesday that the pair are expected to be sidelined until April.

Even in a best case scenario, that timeline would mean that they will be ruled out for crunch clashes West Brom, Aston Villa, and Brighton.

Steve Bruce’s men are currently three points clear of the relegation zone, and are already without top scorer Callum Wilson.

Bringing all of those factors together, Jordan has expressed his concern for the Toon Army’s Premier League status.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “They got Saint-Maximin back at the end of January and you started to see a different style of play that the fans had been calling for – a more ambitious Newcastle team because certain players were available again. Ultimately Steve had taken certain perspectives and changed some of his thinking.

"I watched Saint-Maximin, I watched Newcastle on Saturday against Wolves, and Almiron as well, and I thought they were two standout players.

"This can't help Newcastle, he’ll have to shuffle his pack again, and god forbid we start seeing like Andy Carroll starting again for them. But they’ve got to do what they’ve got to do. This doesn’t help them.

"They’ve lost Callum Wilson as well and I don’t know when he’ll be coming back, and all of these things make it very difficult for them.

"But Newcastle now – with due respect to Steve, and the Newcastle fans will say ‘Yeah we know all that already’ – are in the eye of storm in this relegation battle. Fulham really in good form. If they go to West Brom and lose on Saturday, then I think they’ve got some real real problems.

"I thought they played well against Wolves, I thought they were okay against Manchester United. I know he got some criticism for laughing and joking with somebody he’s known for 25 years, but by the same token, this game against West Brom, if they don’t go and get a result then I think it’s going to really start piling on Steve.”
