The 31-year-old was tentatively linked with a return to Leeds United last year and it has now emerged that Nottingham Forest are keen to bring the striker in on loan this month. The Times have reported that Forest are working on a temporary deal that would see Wood join the club until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Wood has scored twice in four Premier League starts for Newcastle this season with 14 of his 18 league appearances coming off the bench. With Callum Wilson currently leading the line and Alexander Isak close to returning to full fitness, the New Zealand international is likely to be limited to appearances from the bench should his team-mates avoid injury.

Hide AdWood signed for Newcastle from Burnley for £25million last January and has since found goals hard to come by. In 35 top flight outings for The Magpies, Wood has scored four goals.
Despite Forest’s interest in Wood, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe is keen to keep the striker while Wood has already insisted his future is on Tyneside.
“I am committed here and want to be here,” Wood said while in Saudi Arabia. “I have played in every game except one.
“Whatever capacity it is, I want to be here and help the manager, whichever he sees fit. If it’s five minutes and seeing a game out, I am here to do it, work hard and press.
“If it’s starting the game, scoring goals and working hard, I’m here to do that. My future is definitely here.”
