Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Arsenal schoolboy Shaun Mavididi.

Here, we take a look at everything you need to know about the attacker and his links to St James’s Park:

What’s the story?

According to Football Insider, the 16-year-old has agreed a two-year scholarship on Tyneside, which will then be converted into a one-year professional contract.

Mavididi was released by Arsenal at the beginning of the year before joining the Magpies on trial in February.

He featured for United’s under-18s during a 2-1 defeat to Stoke City but did enough to impress coaches at the club’s training base.

Newcastle are said to have beaten a number of Premier League and Championship teams to the teenager's signature.

What position does Shaun Mavididi play?

Mavididi is an attack-minded player. He can play as a forward or as a winger.

During his appearance for the Magpies’ under-18s, Mavididi came on in place of winger Dylan Stephenson.

What are Newcastle’s plans for Shaun Mavididi?

Newcastle clearly view the 16-year-old as one for the future, as reflected in the reported contract offer.

As per Football Insider, the plan is for the teenager to link up with United’s academy before attempting to make an impression at senior level.

What is Shaun Mavididi’s career so far?

There isn’t a great deal of information on Mavididi’s career so far due to his young age.

It is believed Mavididi started the season in Arsenal’s under-16s before appearing in the under-18s Premier League with Newcastle.

Shaun is the younger brother of Stephy, who left Arsenal for Juventus and now plays for Montpellier.
