The Magpies’ survival was confirmed with three games to spare after Fulham lost 2-0 to Burnley at Craven Cottage last night.

When asked if Bruce has earned the right to win the fans over next season, Barton told Sky Sports: "It is a possibility but I think it’s gone too far now.
"The comments that were said, the style of football at the beginning of the season – you can’t go and publicly argue with the fans.

"The potential is there, the ambition is there with the fans, they just want their team to go out and perform, try and win games.
