The Steelmen experienced Wembley heartache as Ebac Northern League rivals Hebburn Town became the tenth North East club to lift the Vase with a 3-2 win at the home of football.
Consett will get another crack at the competition next season and Mitchell to keen to return to Wembley and have a push to secure the Northern League title.

Hide AdHe said: “I came to the club, when I spoke to Frank (Bell, Consett chairman) about the club, I said I want to take the club to the next level.
“Frank has got his dream, like all of the chairman in the Northern League, it’s their dream to get to Wembley.
“It’s fantastic for the club, we have got that, we want to come back next year.
“We’ve had a taste.
“The club is ambitious; I am massively ambitious.
“We have got to try and push on and win our league next year.”

Hide AdThe Consett boss also revealed his pride over the way his side approached what was always going to be an entertaining contest against their North East rivals.
The two sides played out one of the most entertaining Vase Finals in the competition’s recent history before Olly Martin’s late goal gave Hebburn a win by the odd goal in five.
Mitchell believes that both sides have shown the strength of the Northern League as the North East continued its love affair with the competition.
“For any non-league fan watching it, I am sure they have enjoyed the game.

Hide Ad“The Northern League, the last 13 years, there has been 10 finalists, something like that.
“It’s a massive number anyway.
“It just goes to show the strength of the Northern League, it’s really a strong league.”
Substitute Martin wrote his name into Hebburn Town folklore as the Hornets edged a titanic FA Vase Final against Ebac Northern League rivals Consett 3-2.
The lively forward scored with just six minutes left after the North East rivals had produced a scintillating contest at Wembley Stadium.
