Next to open new beauty store in former Debenhams store at Metrocentre

Retail bosses are yet to confirm the opening date for the new store – which currently has three floors.

The brand’s new store will open with a beauty, home and women’s fashion lifestyle offer within the centre which will allow Next to extend its fast growing premium beauty offer from online only.

The UK health and beauty market is set to grow by 8.8% by 2024 according to Global Data when it will be worth an extra £2 billion.

The Debenhams store at the Metrocentre closed along with all retailers across the country at the start of the coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

But unlike the majority of the chain’s stores, the Metrocentre store did not reopen after the retailer failed to reach a rent agreement with its landlord.

Intu Metrocentre has now seen most of its retailers open and shoppers and bosses say the new Next store will be a welcome addition.

Gavin Prior, operations director at intu Metrocentre said: “We are delighted to make this announcement today and show that intu Metrocentre continues to be a destination that brands want to invest in.

"This new partnership shows how important flagship destinations are to the future of retail. We are very impressed with NEXT’s ambition for its new concept.

“There are many positive movements in retail and confidence within the industry that will see further announcements and good news for our shoppers.”
