‘Keep it simple’ – A South Shields barber's advice to people cutting their own hair during lockdown

A barbershop in South Shields has offered advice to those who are attempting to cut their own hair at home during the lockdown.

Helen Maguire, the owner at the HelRAZORS barber’s, has been handing out some invaluable tips to those who need a trim while businesses remain closed.

Following Boris Johnson’s announcement on Monday, March 23, all non-essential shops including barbers and hairdressers had to shut.

Helen decided to create videos and post them on the HelRAZORS Facebook page, giving advice to those wanting to cut their own hair.

She said: “At first, we wanted to give health and safety advice for cutting hair.

People are using sharp objects such as scissors and clippers next to their ears and we were trying to prevent any injuries.”

The initial video went viral, with over 47,000 views, prompting Helen to post further videos.

She continued: “We created a three-part video, made up of short clips. The idea was to make it as simple as we could for people to follow.

“That’s my main advice for anyone wanting a lockdown haircut. Keep it as simple as possible.”

The videos have received positive feedback not only from customers, but people across the country.

Helen added: “I’ve had loads of people message me for further advice.”
