Cbeebies presenters Chris Jarvis and Naomi Wilkinson visited Holy Trinity CE Academy in South Shields as part of the BAFTA Kids Roadshow, which is travelling to 10 schools across the UK.

The roadshow is being delivered in partnership with children’s mental health charity, Place2Be, and aims to boost pupils’ confidence and creativity.

Chris and Naomi spent time with children from each year group, aged 4–11, teaching them about TV and film and offering behind the scenes insight, before pupils had an opportunity to have a go at presenting themselves.

“We spent a whole day exploring storytelling in the media and many other important life skills all linked to film, games and television,” said Chris, who visited the region for a Cultural Spring event in 2018 and described The Customs House as one of his “all-time favourite theatres”.

“I already know how much this area is bursting with creativity,” he continued.

“I love coming up here, I’ve got happy memories of South Shields.

“The Holy Trinity school is full of positive children and inspiring teachers. It’s really a happy school, they made us smile. I hope the children enjoyed it as much as we did.”

Nicola added: “It was so welcoming and I’m very impressed at how polite and kind the children were to us, and to each other. They are incredibly well behaved.

“It’s really nice when you leave at the end of the day and children who you would never have expected to stand up and speak in front of their friends, find that inner confidence and you see them walking out of the school gates feeling 10ft-tall.”

Headteacher Tina Murphy said: “We were delighted to host a BAFTA Kids Roadshow with Place2Be. It’s a huge experience for our children, they were so excited about these personalities coming into our school, who they’ve followed throughout their lives. We’re really happy to be working with Place2Be, its an amazing resource that we’ve got and we’re delighted we were chosen.”
