The local authority is creating a network of volunteers to help keep people safe, reassured and supported in these uncertain times. Keeping our communities well informed will help stop the spread of infection.

How it works

Sign up to be a Covid Community Champion and you’ll receive the latest information about Covid-19 every two weeks. You can share this information with anyone in your community.

South Tyneside Council also want your feedback – they want to hear more about what information or guidance is and isn't working, as well as whether any information is confusing. If you're getting questions you cannot answer from your local community, then they will be on hand to help.

Who can become a Covid Community Champion?

You can become a COVID Community Champion if you live or work in South Tyneside and are able to help share important health information and government guidance across South Tyneside.

You do not need experience or to give up a lot of your time. The only thing you need is a willingness to help us share information with others.

How South Tyneside Council will support you

They will provide you with the latest information about the local and national response to Covid-19 for you to share with others, whether that’s online, in print, or by discussing it with family, friends and colleagues.

They would like you to tell the team there what is and is not working, and what support or extra information your community needs.

You can choose to stay in touch with the council in the way you would find most helpful – this could be by email, telephone or joining the Facebook group.

The council and its network of volunteers will work together to share information to help respond to concerns, worries or tensions in the community.

Help to spread the word

South Tyneside Council are using a range of materials to communicate important public health information about Covid-19 and Test and Trace. They can supply them in digital format, or send you printed materials if you need it.

Many of the materials are available in a wide range of languages. Please email [email protected] to let us know what you need.

Vaccine campaign materials

Beat Covid NE have created guidance and videos about the COVID-19 vaccine at https://www.beatcovidne.co.uk/

As well as vaccine materials the site includes key information on how to take a LFT, how to order a test, how to shop safely, stay safe when you are out and about and even has tips on entertaining kids!

South Tyneside also created some videos which feature their very own local Covid champions. These videos sit alongside videos from a doctor at South Tyneside District Hospital, a local GP, a local pharmacist and South Tyneside Director of Public Health. www.youtube.com/SouthTynesideCouncil
