The areas of South Tyneside with the highest and lowest numbers of coronavirus deaths

The statistics, published on Friday, May 1 give a breakdown of the total number of deaths within the borough for the first time.

The figures include deaths confirmed in South Tyneside up until April 17.

Overall, Hebburn is the worst-hit area with eight deaths recorded in Hebburn West and six in Hebburn North.

No deaths have been recorded in Horsley Hill, Boldon Colliery, Cleadon and East Boldon, Whitburn and Marsden, Biddick Hall or Brockley Whins.

The ONS data only includes deaths which occurred between March, 1- April 17 where coronavirus was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributing factor.

The information is based on details collected when the deaths were registered and does not show the actual location of the deaths.
