Graffiti sprayed on Domino's shop ordering pizza takeaway to 'close' during coronavirus crisis

A spray can-wielding vandal has demanded the pizza delivery chain close during the ongoing crisis as the number of coronavirus cases in the North East rises to 251.

The words ‘close’ were sprayed across windows and doors at the Prince Edward Road takeaway on Thursday, March 26.

At the start of the week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson put the UK in lockdown – days after he told all restaurants, pubs, cinemas and leisure centres to close and not reopen last Friday (March 20).

However takeaways and delivery services have been allowed to remain open and Domino bosses have described the recent act of vandalism as ‘disappointing’ and ‘discouraging’.

A spokesman for Domino’s said: “We have reassurance from the government that food delivery businesses like ours should remain open to reduce the number of people out and about for food shopping and getting hot, fresh food to those who are self-isolating.

“Behaviour like this is disappointing and so discouraging to our hard working teams who are working tirelessly keeping pizza flowing in communities across the UK.”

The Department of Health and Social Care has revealed the number of people who have died after testing positive for covid-19 in the UK has risen to 759 – an increase of 181 in 24 hours.

The number of confirmed cases in the UK has also risen to 14,579 – an increase of 2,921.
