Is the latest lockdown in South Tyneside working?

Official Government figures show that since the start of January the seven-day rate of positive Covid cases per 100,000 people in South Tyneside has dropped from 496.8 (on January 1) to 224.5 on (January 29).

South Tyneside has now been in a lockdown for a month and the latest figures show 15 out of 20 neighbourhoods have seen a drop in infections in the past week.

Here we reveal which neighbourhoods have seen the biggest drop in case rates per from the seven days up to Friday, January 22, and the seven days up to Friday, January 29.

The case rate takes into account the number of people living in each area compared to the number of people who have tested positive for the virus and are measured by 100,000 people.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). Pictures are for illustrative purposes only.
