Here are the neighbourhoods where Covid infections are falling the fastest

Official Government figures show that since the start of January the seven-day rate of positive Covid cases per 100,000 people in South Tyneside has dropped from 496.8 (on January 1) to 224.5 on (January 29).

South Tyneside has now been in a lockdown for a month and the latest figures show 15 out of 20 neighbourhoods have seen a drop in infections in the past week.

Here we reveal which neighbourhoods have seen the biggest drop in case rates per from the seven days up to Friday, January 22, and the seven days up to Friday, January 29.

Hebburn North has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 60.7%. The case rate was 318.7 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 125.2 per 100,000 people on January 29.

The case rate takes into account the number of people living in each area compared to the number of people who have tested positive for the virus and are measured by 100,000 people.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). Pictures are for illustrative purposes only.

Simonside has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 53.3%. The case rate was 265.6 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 124 per 100,000 people on January 29.
South Shields East has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 50%. The case rate was 258.3 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 129.1 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Hebburn South has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 48.5%. The case rate was 342.3 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 176.3 per 100,000 people on January 29.
South Shields West has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 41.2%. The case rate was 205.7 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 121 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Cleadon and East Boldon has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 38.1%. The case rate was 369.9 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 229 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Harton (East) has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 37.5%. The case rate was 432.4 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 270.3 per 100,000 people on January 29.
West Park has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 36.4%. The case rate was 200.5 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 127.6 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Westoe has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 29.4%. The case rate was 262.1 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 185 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Whitburn and Marsden has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 23.1%. The case rate was 333.5 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 256.6 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Brockley Whins has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 16.7%. The case rate was 223.1 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 185.9 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Horsely Hill has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 8.7%. The case rate was 349.5 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 319.1 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Biddick Hall has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 8.3%. The case rate was 166.4 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 152.6 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Jarrow Town has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 7.7%. The case rate was 233.7 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 215.7 per 100,000 people on January 29.
Whiteleas has seen rates of positive Covid cases fall by 6.7%. The case rate was 220.5 per 100,000 people on January 22 compared to 205.8 per 100,000 people on January 29.
