She says her symptoms started with a dry cough and tightness in her chest, which gradually worsened to a shortness of breath and “burning sensation” in her back.

However, she believes she is lucky not to have developed a temperature or any dizziness.

On her Twitter account on Tuesday, March 17 she said: “Many people are asking about my coronavirus symptoms.

“My symptoms started with a dry cough but I was also feeling tightness in my chest. Over the next few days my chest became worse with a shortness of breath and a burning sensation in my back. I haven’t developed a temperature which I understand is quite fortunate nor any dizziness.”

She continued: “The isolation is difficult, I am separated from my family and miss them terribly. There are also many practical difficulties to overcome.”

The MP went on to urge anyone who might be experiencing similar symptoms to keep following the advice from NHS England.

She added: “If you are displaying any of the symptoms above or are in a vulnerable group, please keep checking the NHS advice at 111.nhs.uk.”

The latest government guidance says anyone living alone and displaying symptoms, including the recent onset of a continuous cough, or high temperature is advised to self-isolate for seven days.

In households where one member has symptoms, then all residents must stay at home for 14 days.
