Jarrow Festival was set to take place over 10 days at the end of May, but organisers have been forced to postpone the event due to the ongoing uncertainty over coronavirus.

However, residents have been reassured the festival will take place at a later date as no spending had been committed for the community celebration.

Member or Jarrow Festival Committee, said: “Jarrow Festival has been an important part of the community's calendar for over 30 years and this year's Jarrow Festival will be a celebration of the community coming back together after this difficult time.

“By postponing the Festival we can make sure that it is at a time that is safe for everyone to enjoy and celebrate together.''

Jarrow Festival celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018 and the 10 day event in 2019 saw thousands take part in a score of activities.

Organisers are looking at a number of different dates for the festival, including during autumn or next spring, with the idea that it will give the community something to look forward to and bring people together, when safe to do so.
