Majority of readers want stricter rules on junk food advertising

A new NHS report says 26% of men and 29% of women are obese, while over 56% of adults risk chronic disease due to their weight. The Obesity Health Alliance is urging new regulations.

So we asked in our Facebook poll: “Do you think the next Government should bring in new guidelines to restrict the marketing of junk food?”

At the time of writing almost 300 people had voted with 59% saying yes, 41% no.

Dany Maiden said: “I think people need to exercise more and get out a little every day; also better for your mental health. We shouldn't just be focusing on food. Get the kids out for a walk climbing trees and exploring.”

Jane Mary Robertson thinks: “Unfortunately, I don't think it will change anything. People are generally in denial about anything that is harmful to health. They do what they want to do regardless.”

James Hughes said: “I agree with the comments, but also think if the government was not seen to be doing something some people would be saying it’s their fault for not doing anything. But yeah, people are going to eat what they want to eat.”
