South Shields has always been a good night out - but many of the town's old pubs are sadly no longer with us.

Following the news that another well-known South Tyenside pub is set to close, we've dug into our picture archives to find more where last orders have been called once and for all - how many of these did you used to drink in?

The Beacon in Green's Place on the Lawe Top was one of the oldest pubs in South Shields, having served drinks since the late 1800s. It closed in 2015, and the building has planning permission to turn it into seven apartments.

The Brig was situated on Ferry Approach, South Shields, and closed in 2010. It was demolished in December 2012 as part of the redevelopment of the Market Place area.

The Brunny, as it was known, was on the corner of Brunswick Street and Laygate in South Shields, and there had been a pub of this name on the site since 1832. Latterly a strip club known as Whispers, it closed in December 2011.
