There seems to be no stopping South Shields FC at the moment.

Not only are the Mariners doing well in the league, they’re also taking the FA Cup by storm, earning their place in the fourth qualifying round of the competition for the first time since 1974 after defeating York City in a thrilling last-gasp victory last weekend and previously Darlington in an earlier round.

Now they face National League side Hartlepool United at Mariners Park in what promises to be a plum tie.

To celebrate the Mariners’ success, I’ve dug out some old photos of South Shields playing at home against (most appropriately, York City) and Chesterfield in the first round the FA Cup.
