FOR those of us of that generation, the 1960s can still feel like only the blink of an eye away.
Only the aches and pains when you get up in the morning tell you otherwise. Or is that just me?!
I can imagine that some of these lads, where they’re still with us, might wish they were still as supple with a ball.
For this was ‘The A Team’ in the words of Stephen Hunter, who has kindly sent in the picture, which recalls Baring Street Junior School in Shields in about 1960.
In that back row, from left to right, are Bobby Milburn, Stephen Hunter, Roy Rushton, Stuart Pile, Derek Oren and Roy Meston.
In the front are Charles Hannent, then he can’t remember the next lad’s name, but after him are Kenny Anderson, Robert Carhart, Billy Log and Gordon Smith.
Actually the picture is timely, because you’re due another reminder that the annual reunion of pupils and staff of Ocean Road and Baring Street schools takes place this year on the evening of April 23.
The venue, as usual, will be Brigham’s Club, behind Mile End Road, and all are welcome.
