HOPEFULLY memories of more than just 1970s fashions will come back for a certain reader seeing this.
She will be the lass on the right, with the blonde hair, who was Lynn Rutherford in those days.
This picture goes back to an era we’ve very much been revisiting recently, that of the old nightclubs in Shields, among which was The Tavern (formerly The Latino) at Crossgate, where this snap was taken nearly 40 years ago.
It comes from the girl on the left, Marlene Mercer (now Marlene Middleton).
Both were on a night out from their day jobs at the old John Collier tailoring factory on Western Approach, where Lynn was a machinist and Marlene worked on the matching rack.
The two last saw each other when John Collier’s closed, and Marlene went to work at the shirt factory at Pelaw.
What happened to Lynn, she doesn’t know, but when she came across this picture recently, it got Marlene thinking.
“We were both roughly 22 at the time and it would be nice to get back in touch with my friend,” she says.
So Lynn, if you’re out there, get in touch with me and I’ll pass on Marlene’s details.
