The display of local companies, shops and businesses, as hosted by the Streets of South Shields local history group, held in the town’s St Hilda’s Church, certainly revived a wealth of memories for so many people.
Mention of one of the displays, featuring Wright’s Biscuits, prompted Alice McLachlan to get in touch.
She wrote: “Many lovely memories of working there, lots of laughs over the years with great workmates.
“Still in possession of my watch which I received for 25 years’ service.”
With such a rich history to delve into, what would as South Shields most memorable places to work, shop and visit?
