MEMORIES ... of the La Strada nightclub in South Shields.

CLUBLAND in South Tyneside during the 1960s and 1970s is to be recalled next week.

Sandford Goudie, formerly boss of the La Strada nightspot in Commercial Road, South Shields, will be bringing back happy memories when he speaks to South Shields Local History Group on Monday.

He will recall the halcyon days of the nightclub scene during its golden period.

As a young man of 24, Mr Goudie conceived the idea of opening a nightclub in the town, and he will describe the build-up to what resulted in the opening of the much-loved La Strada, the first nightclub in the North East.

He will relate some of the most enjoyable experiences he had while bringing entertainers of the time to the club.

It attracted stars such as Jimmy Tarbuck and The Shadows.

The meeting will be held in the theatre at South Shields Central Library from 5pm to 6.45pm and visitors are welcome, with a charge of £1.
