The Radio One Roadshow was a big thing in its day.
For it was a chance to see some of the nation’s top radio djs, such as Steve Wright and Simon Bates, up close and, if you were lucky, take part in a host of crazy games.
And the radio listeners lapped it up, with roadshows, such as those pictured here on South Tyneside and beyond, attracting huge crowds.
Back in 1979 the roadshow rolled into South Shields and the town’s South Marine Park, where Simon Bates broadcast the show before hundreds of enthusiastic youngsters. Were you one of those who attended the event?
From pop-picker to pop-maker, and how about this vintage photo of Tom Jones when he was in South Shields, probably to play a concert at La Strada.
Do you remember the show?
