Here's what some of you were saying on social media.

Robert E. Bell: "Yes! Not because Nigel Farage says but because this is a historic day for democracy."

Jamie Cram: "Just like St George's Day should be."

Natasha Diplarous: "There's enough bank holidays how it is. Or should I have said was?"

David Owen: "No. Vote Leave was the right thing to do, but not because of his views."

Christine Larkin: "St George's Day, yes that is something to celebrate. 23rd June 2016 is a dark day in our history and future generations have been let down by listening to this idiot."

Eleanor Forster: "No, he should shut up! I Voted Leave despite him, not because of him. He put so many people in the remain camp with his antics."

Tina Tuckwell Mcfarlane: "Well if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have had a referendum ... yes."

David Wheelhouse: "Get him a knighthood . Arise Sir Nigel."

Rosemary Hardy: "No, no need for it, it's not his victory, people more sense than to believe all his rubbish, albeit he made some valid points."

David Paulsen: "Quite funny the stick people give him yet majority have voted for what he stands for, I for one think he talks more sense than Cameron, Clegg, Miliband etc."

Gary S Forsyth: "Possibly, but he should have nothing to do with it as it was not him who made everyone vote out."

Hasena Meah: "Why? A lot of people still work on bank holidays, they're not benefiting from it."

Ian Storey: "Yes, I'm all for more public holidays and this deserves special recognition for saving our country from EU domination!"

Abby Jade Robinson: "As a leave voter I'm happy with the outcome, but I think we need to hold off the celebrations and bank holiday declaration and see if we actually make a success of this."

Patricia Allison: "I don't agree it should be a bank holiday."
