A WOMAN was taken to hospital suffering from neck injuries after a three vehicle smash on a busy South Tyneside road.
The smash happened on Leam Lane, in between the John Reid Road roundabout and Lindisfarne roundabout, near to the Scotch Estate, at just after 12.30pm today.
The collision involved a blue Peugoet 106, a campervan and a VW Golf and happened in the inside lane as traffic headed towards the Lindisfarne interchange.
Paramedics offered treatment to the woman in the Peugeot and she was taken to South Tyneside General.
It is not thought she suffered serious injuries in the accident.
A section of Newcastle Road was closed for a time to allow an ambulance to reach the scene.
Another ambulance and a response car were also sent to offer treatment by the North East Ambulance Service, while several police vehicles were also sent to the scene.
The lane of the road was closed while the casualty was helped and the car and campervan were cleared from the lane.
The Golf had already parked up at the end of the sliproad.
