Amazing Ava goes to great lengths to boost charity cause

Ava Grace Henderson had several inches of her hair in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

When amazing Ava Grace Henderson decided she wanted a new hairstyle she thought she could do a lot a whole ‘lock’ of good for charity at the same time.

The caring six-year-old, who attends Harton Primary School, agreed to cut off seven inches of her thick curls in aid of the Little Princess Trust, which provides free real hair wigs to boys and girls who have suffered hair loss due to illness.

Ava has raised almost Â£500 for the Little Princess Trust.

But when she got in the hairdressers’ chair she insisted she could trim off even more for the charity - and had another five inches lopped off.

Ava was delighted with her stylish new look - which was cultivated by her stylist aunt Ashleigh McCarthy, who works at Black Door hairdressers in Sunderland.

The community-spirited youngster, who lives in Marsden, South Shields, with mum Stephanie McCarthy, dad Stephen Henderson and baby brother Mac, has raised nearly £500 through her efforts - and the total could rise further.

Donations are still flooding in after little Ava launched a one-girl campaign to encourage school pals and family to dig deep to help other children who are less fortunate.

Delighted mum Miss McCarthy says she was filled with pride when her daughter came to her with the charitable suggestion.

Miss McCarthy said: “Her cousin got her hair cut for the charity which inspired Ava to do the same.

“She wanted to get her hair cut and told us she wanted to raise money for the charity.

We are all so proud of her.

“She has been asking all her friends and family to donate and we already have just under £500 and many more people are still donating every day.

“It is a lovely charity and it is great that Ava has done this.

“She has had 12 inches of her hair cut off and it is still quite long.

“She had been wanting to get her hair cut but I really loved her long hair.

“My sister (Ava’s aunt) cut her hair and she really loves it.”

The Little Princess Trust has given away over 4,000 real hair wigs to children who have sadly lost their hair through cancer treatment across England and Ireland in the last decade.
