Ameer and Oliver heroics not enough for a Whiteleas win

Honours were shared in a high scoring affair between Whiteleas and Harton and Ryhope.

Following a 40 minute delayed start, Leas were put into bat and raced to 45 from 12 overs before a mix up between opening pair Ray McRae and Alex Thomas seen the latter run out.

Unperturbed, McRae continued his innings with a range of classy shots before being caught at deep Gully for 54.

At 120-5, the game was well balanced before a fantastic 100 partnership between Abdul Ameer and Scott Oliver swung it to the advantage of the home side.

Ameer continued his excellent form with the bat in a flawless 54no and a superb quick-hitting 50no from Oliver saw Leas post a very healthy 227.

Ryhope’s reply began with danger-man Adrian Hedley going about his business in normal fashion, reaching 48 without loss from just six overs.

Overseas star Ameer (3-40) then made the breakthrough removing fellow opener Pearson with an excellent catch from Navneet Singh at point.

The visitors’ talisman, Hedley (40), was then dismissed to give Leas hope.

However, the Ryhope middle order showed strong resilience, particularity Chris Lawrence (74no) as they totalled 183/6 – Leas claiming the high scoring draw with 15 points.

The second XI returned from leaders Ryhope with a fantastic 53-run victory.

Electing to bat first, Leas posted 221 thanks to a brilliant 114 from Rashid Amin –his maiden club century, and a 37 from captain Sid Corner Snr.

The home side were then bowled out for 168 thanks to Ryan Hale’s 3-52 and some smart Leas fielding that saw three runs out.
