Andre Ayew's agent 'surprised' Sunderland target is still at Swansea City

Andre Ayew's agent is "surprised" that the forward is still at Swansea after Sunderland January's pursuit of the Ghana international.

Ayew was one of Sunderland's main targets in this transfer window after the Black Cats made a concrete bid for the 26-year-old, who only joined Swansea last summer.

But after Swansea repeatedly insisted that Ayew was going nowhere, Sunderland abandoned their interest earlier this week and turned their attentions instead to Bordeaux's Wahbi Khazri, who has completed a £9million move to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are not expected to resurrect their interest in Ayew before the deadline, with Khazri the Black Cats' big money capture of the window.

Yet Ayew's agent, Mark McKay, has left the door open for Ayew to leave the Liberty Stadium in the summer.

"I'm surprised Andre is still at Swansea in a way," said McKay.

"Sam Allardyce, a manager I have great respect for, made a very good proposal but Swansea have been determined to keep him.

"Sam recognised that he is a player of talent and character who has continued to perform well in a struggling side.

"He has proven in his career he has the mentality and ability to perform on the big stage whether it's the Premier League, Champions League or World Cup and that has attracted interest from a lot of big clubs.

"Time is running out though if they are to try to sign him by Monday."
