Army cadet gets invite to Buckingham Palace

Cadet Corporal Paige Cowton has been chosen to represent the Hebburn Army Cadet Force at Buckingham Palace.

She’ll visit the palace to attend the Princess Royal’s Reception for Young Achievers.

Paige, 17, will be heading to the prestigious event on Tuesday.

The St Joseph’s Sixth Form pupil said: “I am looking forward to my visit to Buckingham Palace.

“I have had great fun in the Army Cadets as well as making lots of friends and gaining new skills. Joining the cadets was a good move.”

The annual event was open exclusively to cadets from St John Ambulance until last year, when it opened up to other uniformed cadets who share similar first aid training.

During the cadets’ national first aid competition Paige, who lives in Gateshead, displayed the very best first aid actions and leadership skills to help lead the Durham Team to national victory.

Her commanding officer, Major Paul Thorley said: “Paige has done well. She will represent the Army Cadet Force at Buckingham Palace in recognition of her leadership and personal skills at the national and inter services first aid competitions.”

“Too many young people are missing out on the challenges and adventures that could transform their lives. The Army Cadets offer a huge range of training, qualifications and challenges.”

The Princess Royal is a title customarily handed to the king or queen’s eldest daughter. The title is currently held by Princess Anne.

The Young Achievers’ Reception is a chance to honour the bravery and dedication shown by cadets.

Those attending the event are given the opportunity to meet the Princess Royal and share their experiences with her at the world-famous home of the royal family.
