A man has been arrested after two men were assaulted in South Shields.
At 11pm last night a 22-year-old man suffered puncture wounds to his arm after being assaulted in Kyffin View in South Shields. He was taken to hospital for treatment, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A short time later, at 11.09pm, a man was assaulted in Collin Avenue. He also suffered puncture wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
It’s believed both men’s injures were caused by a knife and that the incidents are linked to each other.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH.
Extra officers are carrying out enquiries in to the area and offering reassurance to members of the community.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Julie Beattie said: “We know incidents like this can cause concern to the local community and I would like to offer my reassurance that we believe these incidents are between people how know each other and do not believe there was any risk to the wider public.
“Our enquiries are continuing and we have extra officers in the area speaking to the local community and offering reassurance.”
