Debbie Hayes could hardly have had a more eventful 24 hours on the day she won a What’s on Where Award.

The owner of Make My Day Events collected the Entertainer of the Year trophy back in February for her company’s ability to “engage with the children, and bring out their imagination and confidence.”

But that was only half the story of a dramatic 24 hours.

Earlier that day, she had flown back from a holiday in the United States of America to come straight to the awards night.

She admitted: “When you are in a different time zone you get a bit of jetlag. We literally got back from the USA, drove back from Manchester and came to the awards.”

But once she was there, she admitted: “It was the best feeling in the world to win.”

It was the spur to her company going on to winning another title later in 2015 called What’s On For Juniors, recognising the business as the best in the UK.

Debbie admitted the award she collected at the Best Western Roker Hotel was “what gave us the confidence to do bigger things.”

Also in the last year, the firm has produced a video which went viral and had 57 million views.

Make My Day Events provides a full range of bespoke family themed theatrical events tailored to meet the client’s requirements.

Debbie urged people to enter this year’s What’s On Where competition and said: “It has been an absolutely phenomenal year for us and this competition is great for any business starting up to have that recognition.”

The Best Western Roker Hotel will once again be the hosts for the finale of our competition which recognises the elite in everything from restaurants to children’s venues, takeaways to parks and community areas, and hotels to the best shopping experience.

Nominations can be sent in to the Sunderland
Echo until the deadline of February 1.

After that, we will draw up a shortlist before revealing the winners at the finale on Thursday, February 25.

Sponsors already on board are Hebburn-based UK Asbestos Specialists (UKasl).

Just like them, we believe in excellence and we want to highlight it in this year’s awards, held in association with our weekly
entertainments guide, Wow 24/7.
