Bank's appeal for South Shields residents to donate Easter eggs to help homeless

A high street bank is appealing for South Shields residents to donate Easter eggs to help the homeless.

 Virgin Money’s Fowler Street store is collecting the treats on behalf of Emmaus and the Salvation Army.

 Staff are asking for Easter Eggs should be donated directly in the store, and those donating do not have to be Virgin Money customers to make a donation.

 Store manager Janet Glass said: “We are collecting Easter Eggs on behalf of Emmaus and the Salvation Army.

 “They both play such an important part in our local community.

 “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has already made a donation, we are extremely grateful.

 “For anyone who would still like to donate an Easter Egg there is still plenty of time. You don’t have to be a Virgin Money customer, everyone is welcome, just pop in and see us and you can help to make a real difference this Easter.”

 Emmaus provides a home and meaningful work for people who have experienced homelessness, helping them to find a way to move on with their lives and the Salvation Army play an important part in the local community and do such a lot to help families in need.

It is an international solidarity movement, representing 350 groups in 37 countries, offering a range of charitable services.

The Salvation Army is present in 128 countries, running charity shops, operating shelters for the homeless and disaster relief and humanitarian aid to developing countries. The organisation reports a worldwide membership of more than 1.5 million, consisting of soldiers, officers and adherents.
