Barbour backs Best of South Tyneside Awards

A global brand founded in South Shields has come on board once again to support this year's Best of South Tyneside Awards.

Barbour & Sons Ltd has been a sponsor of the Best of South Tyneside Awards from the very beginning.

Founded in 1894 in South Shields, the brand is well known for its iconic waxed jackets which are still manufactured locally.

Barbour, which has a factory store in the borough, will be backing the Child of Achievement Award in this year’s Gazette awards.

Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour said as Barbour is a major employer in the area, they believe the awards are an important way of recognising the contribution of people in the community.

Dame Margaret: “We are proud to be sponsoring the Child of Achievement Award at this year’s Best of South Tyneside Awards.

“As a major employer in the area, we believe that it is important to recognise the outstanding contribution that both individuals and groups make to their local community and we are delighted to be a part of the evening.”

There is plenty of time to come forward with the names of those you want to see in the running for this year’s Best of South Tyneside Awards.

Once we pass the competition deadline, a panel of judges will meet to draw up the shortlist around a week later.

Then it’s on to the grand finale at the Roker Hotel on Wednesday, September 19, where we will be revealing the winners.

It promises to be a fantastic occasion and we can look forward to it with the backing of a string of fantastic sponsors. The Best of South Tyneside awards, this year, have the backing of Barbour; Harlow Printing Limited; JML; BT South Tyneside; Northumbrian Water and The Customs House.

Watch out for more details on them in the days to come.
