Adam Nicholson, from the Community Dental Service in Jarrow, was a winner last year in the Dentist Practice category of last year’s competition along with Peter Knops of Frederick Street Family Dental practice in Sunderland.

Adam impressed the judges after they heard he was known to change the lives of patients by putting those who feel anxious at ease.

As he looked back on last year’s win, Adam said: “Last year’s presentation night was great. The venue was excellent and the show ran really well.

“It was humbling to be surrounded by some truly outstanding health care professionals and it was a wonderful surprise when I won the dentist award.”

And he told how the honour has kept on having an effect.

“Afterwards, the Gazette report of my award was put on the notice board in the clinic’s waiting room and I still receive compliments and congratulations from my patients. So, it feels a bit like a gift that keeps on giving.

“The award has also raised awareness of the South Tyneside Foundation Trust’s Community Dental Service and it’s role in providing dental care to people with special needs in our area.”
