A new business venture in Jarrow is just purr-fect for animal lovers.
Bev Elliot, owner of Mill Dene Farm Cattery in Simonside View, Jarrow, beside Primrose Nature Reserve, says trade is finally starting to pick up – now that people can find her.
However, she wants to spread the word about her cattery, especially as the summer holidays are fast approaching and families may need their pets looking after.
Ms Elliot, who runs the venture with her partner Fred Smith, said: “We have had a few problems because no one knows where we are.
“We’re so well tucked away and isolated, we can’t even order a pizza.
“But things are starting to pick up and we want to tell people about the fantastic service we offer.”
Due to covenants on the land and repair work needing to be carried out, the cattery was finally launched at the end of last year.
There’s 10 pens which can each house up to three cats – providing they belong to the same family.
Ms Elliot said: “Basically, we let them have the run of the place, we treat them like our own two cats.
“We can cater for up to 10 cats, but each pen is big enough for up to three, so providing they’re from the same family and get along then they can all stay together.”
Ms Elliot said the cattery would also house other small animals like rabbits.
