Borini expected to stay with Sunderland, despite speculation over Ayew swap

Fabio Borini is expected to remain at Sunderland beyond the January transfer window, despite speculation that he could be offered in a swap deal for Black Cats target Andre Ayew.

Sunderland remain interested in Swansea winger Ayew, even though they have seen a concrete bid rejected for the Ghanaian, who has netted seven goals in 21 Premier League appearances this season.

There has been speculation that Sunderland are ready to offer a player as a makeweight for Ayew, with reports in France suggesting that Borini could be available.

But sources close to summer signing Borini have said that the Italian knows nothing about rumours that he is heading to the Liberty Stadium and he will be staying at Sunderland.

It is also understood that it was Swansea who raised the idea of a Borini swap, rather than Sunderland.

Borini was not happy at being left out of the starting XI for last weekend’s Premier League defeat at Tottenham, but the ex-Swansea and Liverpool frontman is content with life under Sam Allardyce.

Sunderland ARE understood to be considering whether to make a fresh bid for Ayew though, with the 26-year-old thought to be open to the idea of a move to the Stadium of Light.

However, Swansea insist that Ayew – who only joined the Swans in the summer – is not for sale, with the Welsh club looking to boost their striking options, rather than deplete them.

“There was talk of him going to Sunderland or them making a bid, but we wouldn’t even entertain that, as far as I am concerned,” said coach Alan Curtis earlier this week.

Sunderland have boosted their attacking options with one fresh face in this transfer window after bringing in ex-Hull City man Dame N’Doye on loan until the end of the season.

N’Doye finalised his move from Turkish side Trabzonspor last week, but then had to fly to Paris to formalise the details of his work permit.

The paperwork on the switch has now all been finalised and N’Doye has been at the Academy of Light training with his new team-mates this week.

The 30-year-old – who managed five Premier League goals for Hull last season – will be available to make his Sunderland debut in Saturday’s crunch clash against Bournemouth at the Stadium of Light, where he is likely to occupy a place on the bench.
