Borini '˜happy' at Sunderland despite speculation over Serie A move

Sunderland forward Fabio Borini has poured cold water on suggestions that he could return to his homeland this summer.

Borini has begun to find a consistent run of form over the last couple of months after a lack of pre-season fitness and niggling injuries saw him struggle to make an impact at the start of his second spell at the Stadium of Light.

The Italian’s frustration at being in and out of the side was etched on his face when he celebrated a spectacular last-minute equaliser after coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace last month.

Since then, Borini has been a fixture in the starting XI, yet there have continued to be rumours over a move to Serie A at the end of the season, with Lazio the latest Italian club to be linked to the 25-year-old.

But Borini – the subject of speculation over a swap move featuring Swansea’s Andre Ayew in January – insists he is enjoying life at the Stadium of Light.

“A transfer? Italy will always be home, but I’m happy here and I don’t feel like moving,” he told the Italian media.

Borini was the subject of interest from several Italian clubs when he was out-of-favour at Liverpool last summer, prior to his move to Sunderland.

He is understood to have been on the verge of joining Inter Milan before that proposed move collapsed and he eventually returned to Sunderland in a £10million move.
