It’s thought a blocked pipe in the kitchen area is filling with water every time it rains, and then leaking out onto the flat roof.

After last Thursday’s downpour the carpets and the concert room are now also damaged.

Mr Newton said: “This has been going on for ages. We now have a giant hole in the roof and we can’t use the kitchen at all.

“On Thursday there was a lot of heavy rain and it’s flooded us out, our carpets are well and truly Saturday.

“Our biggest fear now is that water will get into the electric.”

Council bosses say they’re aware of the problem and it’s thought the pipe may be blocked due to antisocial behaviour.

A spokeswoman for South Tyneside Council said: “Repair works had been carried out on the roof at Cleadon Park Bowling Club, however vandals have since caused further damage to it.

“Adverse weather conditions last week compounded the issue causing internal rain damage at the club.

“A contractor was on site last Friday assessing the damage and further repair work will be carried out in the coming weeks.

“We would urge any residents in the Cleadon Park area to report any antisocial behaviour by calling 101.”
