Brighter future in store as South Shields music shop is saved from closure

That’s Entertainment, based in King Street, South Shields, was due to shut its doors last week after failing to reach an agreement with its landlord to extend its business lease.

But staff at the shop, which opened in December 2014 and specialises in selling bargain music CDs, DVDs, now have a brighter future in store.

Bosses at the firm have struck a deal to extend their stay in the town.

Staff shared the news with customers by placing a sign outside the branch, which stated: “Looks like we’re staying a while longer.

“Thank you for your support.

“New stock arriving later next week.”

The store provided a town centre boost when it launched 14 months ago, providing ten new jobs.

Craig Dawson, head of retail at That’s Entertainment, told the Gazette earlier this month that the firm were exploring options to remain in the town after initially failed to come to terms on an agreement with their existing landlord.

Mr Dawson says he is ‘delighted’ that a new agreement has been reached at the 11th hour.

“We are very grateful for the support from our customers, not to mention our excellent store team.”

When the store opened, bosses said they were keen to remain at the heart of the town for ‘many years to come’.

A That’s Entertainment spokesman said at the time: “We’ve been looking to open a store in South Shields for some time now, and were delighted when a suitable opportunity presented itself.

“South Shields is always a busy town, and we feel that our offer will be a great success with the local shoppers.

“We look forward to trading well in South Shields for many years to come.”
