The joint Sunderland and South Tyneside Council International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP), is to be developed on a site near Nissan as part of the city deal agreement between the two councils, and aims to create more than 5,000 high-quality jobs and attract more than £300million of private investment.

Consultations are under way on three different possible configurations of the site: running north to south, east to west, or southeast to northwest.

An open day was held at Boldon Village Hall last week to discuss the plans and a second is planned for Quadrus Centre between 6pm and 8pm on Monday.

Sunderland City council leader Coun Paul Watson said: “The IAMP joint project is set to pay huge dividends for the economies of Sunderland and South Tyneside in the years ahead.

“The park offers a fantastic opportunity not just for this generation, but for future generations to add to the wealth of our two areas, thanks both to the number of jobs it will provide and the high quality of the jobs in the industries the IAMP will attract.

“I’d urge anyone with an interest in the future of the site to go along to the consultations and let us hear their views.”

South Tyneside Council leader Coun Iain Malcolm added: “We have a real opportunity here to bring new and well-paid employment to the area, with a development that will put us at the heart of advanced manufacturing and the automotive industry in the country.”
